FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) —
The Madera County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a shooting involving a Fresno County Sheriff’s deputy that left one suspect dead.
It happened around 4 a.m. Thursday near Hildreth and High Water, north of Millerton Lake. The officer involved shooting turned into a SWAT standoff after the suspects ran into a house.
Fresno County Sheriff Margaret Mims said members of the HEAT team were conducting surveillance of a stolen vehicle and followed the vehicle to scene north of Millerton Lake near Road 216 and Road 210. “The suspects realized that they were being followed. They parked and ran from the location here in Madera County,” said Mims.
Mims said law enforcement surrounded the house and established communication with someone in the house. A while later, deputies saw a male suspect in the window with a rifle. The man pointed the rifle at law enforcement and a Fresno County Deputy shot and killed that suspect.
Mims said one female suspect is in custody, and one suspect is outstanding. The remainder of the investigation has been turned over to the Madera County Sheriff’s Office as the home was in Madera County.
Madera County Sheriff’s Jay Varney said his SWAT team has cleared the home where the suspects had been in a standoff with authorities. Varney said the outstanding suspect was last seen on foot heading towards Millerton Lake. They are still looking for that person.
