California prisons see 167 inmate suicides since 2010 – San Jose Mercury News

SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) — California Institution for Women has experienced four suicides in the last 18 months, more than eight times the national death rate for suicides among female inmates and more than five times the suicide rate for the entire California prison system. Overall, the state prison system has had 167 suicides since 2010.
