CHOWCHILLA, Calif. (KFSN) — Firefighters are mopping up after a grass fire destroyed the Chowchilla Fire Department’s sole water tender on Saturday afternoon. The fire erupted underneath a bridge in the area of Road 16 and Avenue 24.

Officials say a firefighter was inside the water tender when it caught fire, but he was able to get out safely and is OK. The piece of firefighting equipment costs roughly $100,000.
The grass fire itself burned approximately five acres. The cause is under investigation.
