The four day Madera District Fair opens Thursday, Sept. 10, with free admission for seniors (62 and over), children 12 and younger, and active military with ID. In addition, the Fair is partnering with the Madera County Food Bank for “Cash for Cans.” Guests will receive a $2 off coupon with every two cans of non-perishable food donated at the gates. Coupons are valid on Thursday only and one coupon can be used towards one admission.

On Friday, Sept. 11, the Fair will honor military and first responders with free admission on “American Hero Day.” The Veterans of Foreign Post 1981 will provide a special flag ceremony at the main gate at 5:15pm.

On Rancho San Miguel Market Sunday, the Fair will offer early bird free admission 3 to 5 p.m. for children 12 and younger and during those hour’s carnival wristbands are two for the price of one.

Headline entertainment

Entertainment headliners this year are The Marshall Tucker Band, Academy of Country Music New Artist of the Year Justin Moore, Cheap Trick and Ramon Ayala.

For decades The Marshall Tucker Band has entertained crowds and helped establish the southern rock genre of the 70s, featuring classic sounds and definitive blends of rock, rhythm and blues, jazz, country and gospel.

The band will perform hits including “Heard it in a Love Song,” and “Can’t You See” at 7:30 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 10. Tickets are $10.

Reigning ACM New Artist of the Year and multi No. 1 hit maker, Justin Moore, performs at the fair at 8 p.m., Friday, Sept. 11.

Moore is an American country singer and songwriter who’s charted 11 times on the Billboard Hot Country Song charts, including No. 1 singles “Small Town USA,” “If Heaven Wasn’t so Far Away,” “Til My Last Day,” and “Lettin’ the Night Roll.” Tickets are $25.

The iconic American rock band, Cheap Trick, takes stage at 8 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 12. Cheap Trick, one of the most covered bands of all time, have been blending elements of pop, punk and even metal in a way that is instantly recognizable … including the classic rock anthems “I Want You to Want Me,” “Dream Police,” and “Surrender.” Tickets are $20, and an exclusive Meet and Greet package is available for purchase in limited quantities through August.

Closing out the Madera Fair, Ramon Ayala y Sus Bravos del Norte take stage at 7:30 p.m., Sunday, Sept. 13. Ramon Ayala has defined norteno music with his signature songs and definitive instrumental styling which have made him a superstar on both sides of the Rio Grande. Tickets are $20.

All concerts offer VIP reserved seating for purchase. Prices vary per concert and do not include fair admission. In addition, free festival seating with paid fair admission is available.

Entertaining acts all four days

Daily ground acts include Bob Steele’s entertaining and educational Great Bear Show, FIDO 500. an international racing dog troop, and “Something Ridiculous,” a thrilling and hilarious juggling duo. Hypnotist Kellie Karl takes you “to the center of your mind,” Brad’s World of Reptiles can be explored, and magicians and balloonist will meet you in multiple locations around the Fair grounds. Keep your eye out for the roaming dinosaur as well.

Exhibit buildings boast Madera County’s finest in photography, arts, crafts, baking, confections, livestock, floriculture and more. New contests include drought tolerant gardening, and images that portray California’s long drought but resilient spirit.

Visit Hatfield Hall and various locations on the grounds to shop vendors and one-of-a-kind items.

In fantastic Madera Fair fashion, the main concourse will be lined with food, drinks and treats to meet your hearts delight.

Regular admission price is $8, $4 for seniors 62 and over, $4 for children 6-12, 5 and younger are free.
