Madera man taken into custody for joy ride gone wrong | Crime Voice

Richard Estevan Escoto should not have even been driving on Monday, September 21. His license had been suspended and he had no evidence of auto insurance in the car. Nevertheless, he was caught, not only speeding, but for a hit and run causing property damage. Scheduled for court on Tuesday morning, he failed to show up, and a warrant was issued for his arrest.

A week later, on Tuesday September 29, according to an official media report from the Madera County Department of Corrections, the 25-year-old resident of Madera, who lives in the south-central part of town near Alpha Elementary School, was apprehended and booked into the Madera County Jail. He was booked for hit and run with property damage, speeding over 55 miles per hour on a highway, driving with a suspended license and while driving privileges have been revoked, and having no evidence of financial responsibility. Escoto is reportedly unemployed. Bail was set at $81,000 pending his next court date.
