Chowchilla Police Chief David Riviere called for more community involvement after a gang-related shooting Wednesday afternoon prompted a lockdown of area schools.
Officers went to South Eighth Street and West Robertson Boulevard just before 1 p.m., where a caller reported hearing one gunshot. Officers who investigated reported that gang activity was a likely cause of the incident.
“What is occurring in our city is not normal or acceptable,” Riviere said. “The only way we are going to address the recent shootings is as a community, together. I urge people to get involved. Start a neighborhood watch, business watch, better yet, a community watch. It is time we all become neighbors again.”
“We are working very diligently to bring an end to the recent violence in our community,” he added.
Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call Sgt. Rick Hunter at (559) 665-8600.
