3 dead after Amtrak train crashes into vehicle in Madera County | abc30.com

The deadly crash happened around 1 p.m. on Avenue 9 near and Road 33 1/2 in Madera County.

The California Highway Patrol said a freight train was stopped on one set of train tracks at Avenue 9. A pickup truck attempted to go around the train by driving up a nearby dirt road to cross the tracks. When they crossed, they were unable to see the Amtrak train on the second set of tracks.

All three people in the truck died in the crash. The train conductor suffered minor injuries.

There were 235 passengers on the Amtrak train at the time of the crash.
