Madera County fire blackens more than 50 acres near Coarsegold | Fresno Bee

Cal Fire crews were working to contain a brush fire that charred about 50 to 75 acres near Coarsegold Monday afternoon, officials said.

The Madera County Sheriff’s Office was asking drivers to avoid Highway 41 between Road 417 and Road 420 so fire crews could move freely in the area.

Cal Fire confirmed that the fire is 50 to 75 acres, on Veeter Ranch, north of Coarsegold. A Cal Fire official said the fire could have been much worse but for the work the homeowner had done for years to clear out dead brush and foliage around the property.

The fire was 50 percent contained as of 6 p.m. on Monday.
