Madera County sheriff issues mandatory evacuation for Cascadel Woods area | Fresno Bee

An urgent mandatory evacuation order was issued for the Cascadel Woods neighborhood because of a fast-moving wildfire, the Madera County Sheriff’s Office announced Friday evening.

County Supervisor Tom Wheeler said a house at the old mill compound in South Fork ignited, and, as of 10:20 p.m., the fire was spreading toward the Cascadel Woods neighborhood across more than 35 acres with zero percent containment. However, forward progress has stopped.
Four strike teams were on their way to assist in fighting the fire along with four bulldozers, Cal Fire reported. The Sheriff’s Office also requested all off-duty deputies to report to work. Mutual aid for additional law enforcement security to patrol evacuated homes also was requested.
The Sheriff’s Office enacted a zero-tolerance policy for anyone found off their property or in a public area. Anyone in violation will be arrested, the Sheriff’s Office said.
Residents in surrounding neighborhoods off Road 233 were asked to immediately evacuate. But as of 9:20 p.m., the evacuation order was lifted for Wakova Lane, De Na Lane, Tu Nobi Way and Douglas Road, the Sheriff’s Office said. Cascadel and the Douglas Ranger Station remain under evacuation.
Residents in need of evacuation assistance should call 911.
Road 225 wasstill closed and was expected to remain closed all night at Road 233 and De Na Lane, the Sheriff’s Office said.
People interested in receiving updates on the fire can text ForkFire to 888777, sheriff’s Cmdr. Bill Ward said.
A shelter has been set up at Yosemite Lakes Park Church along with a small animal evacuation shelter that was opened for pets of families under mandatory evacuation. For large-animal evacuation, owners are asked to visit the Central California Animal Disaster team for procedures.
