Fighting Roosters Seized and Arrest Made
Last Thursday Sheriff’s Detectives served a search warrant in the 14000 block of Road 28 ½ as part of an investigation into cock fighting activities. Madera County Animal Control assisted in the investigation and also assisted at the scene of the search warrant.
Deputies found that the resident was raising roosters for the purpose of cock fighting. While at the scene, Detectives also found several marijuana plants and a set of brass knuckles. Animal Control seized 21 roosters from the residence.
28 year old Jovani Hernandez of Madera was arrested for cultivation of marijuana, possession of game cocks for fighting, and possession of brass knuckles. He was booked into the Madera County Department of Corrections. Charges will also be filed against a female who lives at the residence.
“This is another case where marijuana production is connected with other crimes that threaten the safety of our communities,” stated Sheriff Varney.
